Armed men attacked Government Secondary School, Iluke Bunu, in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, killing three people, including a vice principal and a six-year-old child, police authorities have confirmed.
The attack occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time when gunmen attempted to abduct students. Police responded to a distress call and engaged the assailants in a gunfight, foiling the abduction attempt. The victims were identified as Vice Principal Mr. John Ojo, a six-year-old pupil, and a security guard.
Kogi State Police Command spokesperson, SP William Aya, stated that the police operation prevented a mass abduction. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the attack, and an investigation is ongoing. The school has been temporarily closed.
