Theodore R. Gilson, a career diplomat who served as the United States Ambassador to Jamaica, has died at the age of 87. His passing was confirmed by the U.S. Department of State.
Gilson was nominated by President Bill Clinton and served as Ambassador to Jamaica from 1998 to 2001. His diplomatic career spanned over three decades, during which he held various posts focused on Latin American and Caribbean affairs.
Prior to his ambassadorship, Gilson served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Caribbean Affairs. He was known for his work on trade, security, and counternarcotics cooperation between the U.S. and Jamaica during his tenure.
Following his retirement from the Foreign Service, Gilson remained engaged in international relations and policy discussions. The cause of death was not publicly disclosed by the family.
