A 16-year-old artist from Georgia, identified as a finalist in Google's annual Doodle for Google contest, is seeking public votes to win a $55,000 college scholarship. Her artwork, which celebrates Black hair, could be featured on Google's homepage.
According to Google's official contest page, the national finalist's drawing was selected from thousands of submissions. The theme for 2026 is 'What I see for the future,' and her doodle depicts a young Black girl with natural hair styled in various ways, surrounded by symbols of joy and empowerment.
Public voting is open until May 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. The winner will receive a $55,000 college scholarship, and their artwork will be displayed on Google.com for a day. The winning student's school will also receive a $50,000 technology package.
Google has not yet announced the exact date the winning doodle will appear on the homepage, but past winners have been featured in the summer. The contest is open to students in grades K-12 across the United States.
