HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a stunning debut for India in a Twenty20 international against Zimbabwe on Thursday, scoring 50 runs off just 18 balls. The 15-year-old's explosive innings helped India cruise to a seven-wicket victory.
Sooryavanshi hit eight fours and two sixes before being dismissed. His half-century came in the 10th over of India's chase of Zimbabwe's total of 115 for 9. India reached 116 for 3 in 11.2 overs.
Zimbabwe, batting first, managed 115 for 9 in their 20 overs, with no batter reaching 30. India's bowling attack, led by spinners, restricted the hosts effectively.
This was Sooryavanshi's first international match for India, and his performance has drawn comparisons to other young talents in the sport.
