A 17-year-old male was charged in court on May 11, 2026, for allegedly assaulting blogger Amos Yee at an anime convention in Singapore. The incident occurred on May 10, 2026, at the Anime Festival Asia held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.
According to court documents, the teen is accused of punching Yee, 27, in the face during the event. Yee, a controversial figure known for his online posts critical of the Singapore government, was reportedly attending the convention as a visitor. The teen faces one count of voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment and a fine of up to S$5,000.
The police were alerted to the incident at about 4:30 pm on May 10. Yee was taken to Singapore General Hospital for treatment of facial injuries. The teen was arrested later that day and released on bail of S$10,000 on May 11. He is scheduled to return to court on June 8, 2026.
