Six prominent tour operators and two media personnel from Tanzania arrived in Uganda on Thursday, May 14, 2026, to participate in the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE), a major tourism event in the country. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral tourism ties and promote Uganda as a destination for Tanzanian travelers.
The group was welcomed by officials from the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) at Entebbe International Airport. According to UTB, the expo is scheduled to take place from May 23 to 25, 2026, at the Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The event is expected to attract over 200 exhibitors from across Africa and beyond.
The Tanzanian delegation will engage in business-to-business meetings, site inspections, and networking sessions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost intra-African tourism under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
Uganda's tourism sector has been recovering steadily, with international arrivals reaching 1.2 million in 2025, according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics. The expo is seen as a key platform to showcase Uganda's attractions, including wildlife, culture, and adventure tourism.
