Dar es Salaam. The government has urged employers across the country to take advantage of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) penalty waiver by clearing outstanding social security contribution arrears.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability), Professor Jumanne Sagini, made the call on June 27, 2026, during a meeting with employers in Dar es Salaam. He emphasized that the waiver, which runs until December 31, 2026, is a significant opportunity for employers to settle their debts without incurring additional penalties.

According to the NSSF, the waiver applies to all principal contribution arrears accumulated up to June 30, 2025. Employers who pay the full principal amount by the deadline will have all associated penalties and interest waived. The fund estimates that over 15,000 employers have outstanding arrears totaling more than 200 billion Tanzanian shillings.

Professor Sagini warned that after the waiver period ends, the NSSF will resume full enforcement measures, including legal action, against non-compliant employers. He urged employers to act promptly to avoid future financial and legal consequences.
