Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the private sector to accelerate regional trade and investment. The pledge was made during a meeting between Tanzania's Director of Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Hashim Abdallah, and the Executive Director of the East African Business Council (EABC), John Bosco Kalisa.
The discussion, held in Dar es Salaam, focused on enhancing collaboration to address trade barriers and improve the business environment within the East African Community (EAC). Both parties agreed on the importance of public-private partnerships in driving economic integration and growth in the region.
Dr. Abdallah emphasized Tanzania's role in promoting economic diplomacy and its readiness to facilitate private sector initiatives. The EABC, as the regional apex body for private sector associations, plays a key role in advocating for policies that ease cross-border trade.
This meeting aligns with ongoing regional efforts to implement the EAC Common Market Protocol, which guarantees the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor. Strengthening such partnerships is seen as critical for post-pandemic economic recovery and sustainable development in East Africa.
