Morocco has announced a new initiative to enhance maritime security along its Atlantic facade, aiming to protect shipping lanes and coastal infrastructure. The plan, unveiled on June 15, 2026, includes increased naval patrols and surveillance systems.
The initiative comes amid growing global concerns over maritime piracy and illegal fishing in the region. Moroccan officials stated that the effort will involve coordination with international partners to ensure safe passage for commercial vessels.
Key components include the deployment of advanced radar systems and the establishment of a maritime coordination center in Casablanca. The project is expected to be fully operational by early 2027.
