The Tanzanian government, in collaboration with the Tanzania Dairy Board (TDB), has launched a new strategy to modernize the dairy sector and increase domestic milk production. The initiative aims to improve milk quality and reduce the country's reliance on imported dairy products.
According to the TDB, Tanzania currently imports approximately 11.6 million liters of milk annually to meet domestic demand. The new strategy focuses on supporting local farmers with better breeding practices, feed, and processing facilities to close this supply gap.
The plan was announced in Morogoro, a key agricultural region. Officials stated that enhancing local production is crucial for food security and economic growth, aligning with broader national agricultural development goals.
