The Government of Tanzania has allocated 56.25 billion shillings in its 2026/27 financial year budget to complete the construction of 105 district hospital projects across the country. The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Governments), Dr. Festo Dugange, announced the funding in Parliament, stating it is part of a broader strategy to improve healthcare access and infrastructure.
The initiative aims to ensure each district in Tanzania has a functioning hospital, addressing a critical gap in the national health system. The completion of these facilities is expected to significantly reduce the distance citizens must travel for advanced medical care.
This allocation follows previous government commitments to upgrade healthcare infrastructure. The funds are earmarked specifically for finishing ongoing construction projects, indicating a push to move from building to operationalizing these essential services.
