The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has initiated dredging of storm-water drains across the city under 32 packages, as announced by Administrator H. V. Darshan on Friday, April 24, 2026. The project aims to improve drainage capacity and reduce urban flooding during the monsoon season.
According to MCC officials, the dredging work covers major drains in residential and commercial areas. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹15 crore, with completion targeted before the onset of heavy rains in June.
Residents have welcomed the move, noting that clogged drains have caused waterlogging in previous years. The MCC has urged citizens to avoid dumping waste into drains to ensure the effectiveness of the dredging.
