UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has publicly criticized the decision by the Wireless Festival to book Kanye West, also known as Ye, as a headliner for its 2026 event. Starmer described the booking as "deeply concerning," referencing the American rapper's history of making antisemitic comments and expressing admiration for Nazi figures.
The controversy stems from a series of incidents in late 2022, where Kanye West made numerous antisemitic statements in interviews and on social media, leading to widespread condemnation and the severing of major business partnerships. In December 2022, he praised Adolf Hitler in an interview.
Wireless Festival, a major UK music event, announced its 2026 lineup on April 4, 2026, confirming Kanye West as a headlining act. The festival is scheduled to take place in London's Finsbury Park in July 2026.
In his statement, Prime Minister Starmer emphasized the importance of event organizers considering the messages promoted by artists they platform. The Board of Deputies of British Jews has also condemned the booking, calling it "a disgrace." Festival organizers have not yet issued a public response to the criticism.
