In a recent interview with CNN, filmmaker Spike Lee defended Lionsgate's Michael Jackson biopic 'Michael' against criticism that it omitted the pop star's child sexual abuse allegations. Lee, who said he saw the movie twice and loved it, argued that the allegations 'don't work in the timeline of the film.'
The biopic, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, covers Jackson's life from childhood to his death in 2009. Critics have noted that the film does not include the 1993 and 2005 allegations, which Lee says were intentionally left out to maintain narrative focus.
Lee's comments come amid ongoing debate about how to portray controversial figures in biographical films. The movie is scheduled for release in 2025.
