SNC-Lavalin, the Canadian engineering firm, has been awarded a Rs 3,513 crore contract for Package 1 of Bengaluru's 21-kilometer metro corridor, according to official sources. The contract, part of the city's suburban rail project, involves design and construction of a 10.5-km elevated section with 10 stations.
The project, known as the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP), aims to improve connectivity in the rapidly growing city. Package 1 covers the line from Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara, a key route expected to ease congestion on existing roads.
SNC-Lavalin, now part of AtkinsRéalis, has extensive experience in metro projects globally. The contract was awarded after a competitive bidding process, with the company emerging as the lowest bidder. Work is expected to begin in 2026 and be completed within 48 months.
