Singapore's Home Team is set to develop space satellites and humanoid robots as part of a broader push into artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology, according to Minister for Home Affairs K. Shanmugam. Speaking at a technology event on April 28, 2026, Shanmugam outlined plans to leverage these innovations for public safety and security operations.
The minister highlighted that the Home Team will collaborate with local tech firms and research institutions to build small satellites for surveillance and communication purposes. These satellites are expected to improve real-time monitoring of borders and maritime areas, enhancing Singapore's ability to respond to threats.
In addition, humanoid robots equipped with AI will be developed to assist in hazardous environments, such as bomb disposal or search-and-rescue missions. Shanmugam emphasized that these robots would reduce risks to human officers while increasing operational efficiency.
The initiative is part of Singapore's Smart Nation strategy, which aims to integrate cutting-edge technology into public services. No specific timeline or budget was provided for the projects, but the minister confirmed that trials are expected to begin within the next two years.
