At the 2026 Salon International de l'Agriculture au Maroc (SIAM), the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, through its financial directorate, launched a pilot project to digitalize payments for agricultural cooperatives. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of Morocco.
The pilot project aims to facilitate financial transactions for cooperatives, enhancing transparency and efficiency. It is part of broader efforts to modernize the agricultural sector and promote financial inclusion in rural areas.
According to the ministry, the project will initially involve a select number of cooperatives, with plans to expand based on results. The digital payment system is expected to reduce cash dependency and streamline subsidy distributions.
Bank Al-Maghrib will provide technical support and ensure the system aligns with national payment infrastructure standards. The initiative aligns with Morocco's digital transformation strategy for the agricultural sector.
