The culinary heritage of Shaxian County in Fujian Province, China, has become a significant driver of local economic development. Its snack culture, known for dishes like Sha County flat noodles, wontons, and steamed soup dumplings, was officially listed as part of China's national intangible cultural heritage in 2021.

This recognition has helped fuel the expansion of Shaxian delicacies restaurants across China and internationally. By the end of 2025, it was estimated that over 88,000 Shaxian snack restaurants operated outside the county, creating an industry worth tens of billions of yuan and providing employment for hundreds of thousands of people, many of them from Shaxian itself.

Local authorities have actively supported this growth through standardized operations, brand promotion, and vocational training. The model demonstrates how regional food culture can be leveraged for widespread entrepreneurial success and poverty alleviation, transforming a local specialty into a nationally recognized brand.
