A public tribute was held in Senegal to honor supporters of the opposition who were imprisoned following protests in early 2024. The demonstrations erupted after President Macky Sall postponed the presidential election, originally scheduled for February 25, 2024, to December of that year.

The delay triggered widespread unrest, leading to clashes between security forces and protesters. Numerous opposition supporters and members of the Pastef party, founded by then-imprisoned candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye, were arrested and detained.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye was later released from prison in March 2024 and went on to win the rescheduled presidential election. The tribute event highlighted the ongoing political tensions and the fate of those detained during the crisis.
