The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) regarding the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), solidifying Senegal's title. The Moroccan federation had contested the validity of the match, which Senegal won.
In response to the legal confirmation, former Senegalese international and team manager Pape Thiaw made a statement. "Trophies are won on the pitch, and that's what we did," Thiaw was quoted as saying, emphasizing the team's on-field performance as the basis for their championship.
The 2025 AFCON final, held in Morocco, saw the Senegalese national team defeat the host nation. The FRMF's appeal argued for a replay, but CAS's ruling brings a definitive end to the dispute, upholding the original result.
This legal resolution confirms Senegal's second AFCON title, following their first win in 2021, and reinforces the final standings of the tournament.
