Senegal's National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) has intensified its engagement with the families of 18 Senegalese football fans detained in Morocco. The supporters were arrested in Casablanca in November 2024 following a match between the Senegalese club Génération Foot and Morocco's Raja Club Athletic. They were charged with offenses including violence against public officials.
A CNDH delegation, accompanied by the group's lawyer Patrick Kabou, recently visited Saint-Louis to meet with the detainees' families. The commission stated its role is to monitor the judicial process and ensure the detainees' rights are respected, while providing moral and logistical support to their relatives.
The case has drawn significant attention in Senegal. The detainees' defense argues the charges are disproportionate. Moroccan authorities maintain the legal proceedings are following due process. The next court hearing is scheduled for late April 2026.
