Despite the SUV boom, many car enthusiasts still long for the return of classic sedans. Models like the Honda Accord Coupe (discontinued after 2017) and the Mazda6 (ended in 2021 in the US) have loyal followings. However, as of April 2026, no major automaker has announced plans to revive these nameplates.
The shift to crossovers and electric vehicles has left little room for traditional sedans. For example, Ford stopped selling the Fusion in 2020, and General Motors phased out the Chevrolet Impala in 2020. These models were once best-sellers but fell out of favor as consumers preferred higher seating positions and more cargo space.
Some automakers are experimenting with electric sedans, like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, which offer a modern take on the sedan shape. However, these are new designs, not revivals of classic models. The nostalgia for older sedans remains strong in online communities, but production economics make a comeback unlikely.
