The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a nationwide 'Go Cashless' campaign for Eid ul Adha 2026 to promote secure, convenient, and cashless transactions in cattle markets across Pakistan.
The initiative forms part of SBP's broader strategic vision to enhance digital financial inclusion and reduce reliance on cash. According to SBP officials, the campaign aims to minimize risks associated with carrying large sums of cash, such as theft and counterfeit currency, while encouraging the use of digital payment methods like mobile banking, QR codes, and point-of-sale terminals.
Cattle markets in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad are expected to participate. The SBP has advised banks to set up temporary branches or mobile units at these markets to facilitate account opening and digital payment registration for sellers and buyers.
This move aligns with Pakistan's ongoing efforts to digitize its economy, with the SBP reporting a significant increase in digital transactions in recent years. The campaign is scheduled to run through the Eid ul Adha period, which is expected in late June or early July 2026, depending on the lunar calendar.
