The Rural Municipality (RM) of Corman Park in Saskatchewan has declared a state of emergency due to extreme flooding caused by rapid snowmelt and ice jams. Reeve Judy Scragg described the situation as unprecedented in her lifetime, stating, 'We are just completely inundated. The flooding is unprecedented for my lifetime.'
Scragg noted that the RM is focusing on protecting critical infrastructure by pumping water around key areas, but acknowledged that much of the flooding must be allowed to run its course. The flooding has affected numerous rural properties and roads, with officials urging residents to avoid travel in affected areas.
The Saskatchewan Water Security Agency has been monitoring the situation, reporting that the South Saskatchewan River is experiencing above-normal flows due to the rapid melt. Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for parts of the province, which could exacerbate the flooding.
Local emergency services are coordinating sandbagging efforts and providing support to affected residents. The RM is advising residents to prepare for potential evacuations if conditions worsen.
