Samsung Electronics unveiled a new 14-meter Onyx LED cinema screen at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, expanding its lineup of direct-view LED displays for theaters. The screen is designed for premium large-format (PLF) auditoriums, offering consistent performance and reliability similar to the existing 5-meter and 10-meter Onyx models.
According to Samsung's official announcement, the 14-meter screen features a peak brightness of 146 nits, which is significantly higher than the typical 48 nits of standard DCI-compliant projectors. This brightness level is maintained across the entire screen, ensuring uniform image quality without the hotspots or degradation common with traditional projection systems.
The new model supports HDR10+ and has a 16-bit processing depth for smooth color gradients. Samsung also highlighted the screen's modular design, which allows for easy installation and scalability. The Onyx series has been adopted by over 100 cinema sites worldwide since its introduction in 2017.
Industry analysts note that the 14-meter size targets the growing demand for premium large-format experiences, competing with IMAX and Dolby Cinema. Samsung did not disclose pricing or specific availability dates for the new screen.
