President William Ruto has announced a partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society to establish a National Ambulance Dispatch Centre. The initiative aims to streamline emergency medical services across the country, ensuring faster response times for accidents and medical emergencies.
Speaking at a press conference on July 22, 2026, Ruto stated that the center will coordinate ambulance services from both public and private providers. The Kenya Red Cross will play a key role in training dispatchers and managing the system, leveraging its experience in disaster response.
The dispatch center is expected to be operational by early 2027, with initial funding from the national budget and support from international health organizations. The government plans to integrate the system with existing emergency hotlines, including 911 and 112.
This partnership marks a significant step in improving Kenya's emergency healthcare infrastructure, which has faced challenges due to fragmented services and limited resources in rural areas.
