Cristiano Ronaldo will play in his sixth World Cup at the age of 41 after Portugal coach Roberto Martinez named him in the squad for the tournament. The announcement was made on May 20, 2026, at Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras.
Ronaldo, who made his World Cup debut in 2006, is the first men's player to appear at six editions of the tournament. He previously played in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.
The squad includes 27 players, with a symbolic tribute to the late Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in 2025. Martinez said, 'This is for Diogo, who will always be with us.'
Portugal will face Brazil, Morocco, and South Korea in Group H of the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
