Qingyuan City in south China's Guangdong Province exported 200,000 ornamental fish in the first half of 2026, according to local customs data. This represents a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2025, driven by growing demand from Southeast Asian markets.
The exports include species such as koi carp, goldfish, and tropical fish, which are bred in specialized farms across Qingyuan. The city has developed a robust aquaculture industry, with over 50 farms dedicated to ornamental fish production.
Customs officials in Qingyuan have streamlined inspection and quarantine procedures to facilitate faster export clearance. The average export value per fish has also risen by 8% due to improved breeding techniques and higher-quality specimens.
Industry analysts attribute the growth to Qingyuan's favorable climate and water quality, which are ideal for fish breeding. The city aims to expand its market reach to Europe and North America in the second half of 2026.
