LAHORE – The Punjab Government Pensioners Association (PGPA) has strongly rejected the Punjab government’s decision to grant only a 3.5% increase in pensions, calling it unfair, inadequate, and discriminatory against millions of pensioners. The association has demanded an immediate review of the increase, arguing that it does not reflect the rising cost of living.
According to PGPA officials, the 3.5% hike is far below the inflation rate, which has eroded the purchasing power of pensioners. They have urged the government to consider a more substantial increase, citing the financial struggles of elderly citizens who rely on fixed incomes.
The Punjab government announced the increase as part of its annual budget, but the PGPA has vowed to continue protests and negotiations until a fairer adjustment is made. The association plans to submit a formal request for a review to the Chief Minister’s office.
