Portugal, serving as the guest of honor at the 18th International Agriculture Fair in Morocco (SIAM), has expressed a firm commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation with the North African kingdom. The announcement was made by Portuguese Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes, during the event held in Meknès.
The 2026 edition of SIAM, a major agricultural exhibition, provided a platform for the two nations to discuss enhancing bilateral ties in the sector. Minister Fernandes highlighted shared interests in areas such as sustainable water management, technological innovation, and combating the effects of climate change on agriculture.
This partnership aligns with broader strategic interests between the European Union and Morocco. Strengthened cooperation is seen as a way to promote food security, knowledge exchange, and economic development for both Portugal and Morocco.
