Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday ordered the formation of a federal emergency response committee and directed Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik to undertake emergency visits to provinces at risk from monsoon rains, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
The directive came during a meeting to review preparedness for the monsoon season, which typically brings heavy rainfall and flooding to parts of Pakistan. The PM emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities to minimize potential damage and loss of life.
The NDMA has been instructed to ensure that all early warning systems are functional and that relief supplies are pre-positioned in vulnerable areas. The climate change minister is to coordinate with provincial disaster management authorities to assess readiness and address any gaps.
