Phuket authorities are evaluating a proposal to widen the main gateway road, Thepkrasattri Road, to address chronic traffic congestion on the island. The project, currently in the feasibility study phase, aims to expand key sections of the road that connects Phuket International Airport to Phuket Town.
According to the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (PPAO), the widening would target the stretch from the Darasamut Intersection to the Koh Kaew Intersection, a distance of approximately 8 kilometers. The plan includes adding extra lanes and improving intersections to increase traffic flow capacity.
The PPAO has allocated a budget for the study, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Public hearings will be conducted to gather input from local residents and businesses before any construction begins. The project is part of broader infrastructure improvements to support Phuket's growing tourism and population.
