Israeli cybersecurity unicorn Pentera has laid off approximately 40 employees, representing less than 10% of its 470-person workforce, according to a report by Calcalist. The cuts are concentrated in marketing and headquarters roles, with about half of the company's staff based in Israel.
The move is part of a broader strategic shift toward artificial intelligence-driven security solutions. Pentera, which specializes in automated security validation and penetration testing, aims to strengthen its AI capabilities amid growing competition in the cyber sector.
Pentera was valued at over $1 billion in its last funding round in 2022, securing $150 million in Series C funding led by K1 Investment Management. The company has not publicly commented on the layoffs beyond the Calcalist report.
The layoffs reflect a trend in the cybersecurity industry, where companies are increasingly prioritizing AI and automation to streamline operations and enhance threat detection. Pentera's focus on AI aligns with market demand for more proactive and efficient security testing tools.
