Former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is recovering from treatment, she confirmed to CNN. Bondi, who served as attorney general under President Donald Trump, said she underwent surgery a few weeks ago and is currently recuperating.
Bondi told CNN that the cancer was discovered after she left the Justice Department in April. She did not provide further details about the stage or specific type of thyroid cancer, but noted that she is undergoing treatment and remains optimistic about her recovery.
Thyroid cancer is generally considered highly treatable, with a five-year survival rate of over 98% for most types, according to the American Cancer Society. Common treatments include surgery, radioactive iodine therapy, and hormone therapy.
Bondi, 61, served as Florida's attorney general from 2011 to 2019 before becoming U.S. Attorney General in 2025. She resigned from the Justice Department in April 2026.
