Pakistan is set to increase petrol prices by approximately Rs4.75 per litre in the upcoming fortnightly fuel price review, according to government sources cited by local media. The adjustment, expected to be announced on May 15, 2026, would bring the new price to around Rs287 per litre, up from the current Rs282.25.
The price hike is attributed to fluctuations in global crude oil prices and changes in the exchange rate, as Pakistan's fuel pricing mechanism is linked to international market trends. The government reviews fuel prices every two weeks to pass on global cost changes to consumers.
This increase follows a period of relative stability in fuel prices, with the last adjustment being a minor reduction in late April. Analysts note that the rise could add to inflationary pressures in the economy, as transport and production costs are directly affected by fuel prices.
The official announcement is expected later this week, with the new prices taking effect from May 16, 2026. Consumers are advised to monitor official channels for the final confirmed rates.
