The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has announced plans for an indefinite nationwide strike starting March 31, 2026, if the government does not address their demand for increased profit margins. The association, representing over 13,000 fuel stations, is protesting the current fixed dealer margin, which they claim is insufficient amid rising operational costs.

According to PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan, the strike will involve the complete closure of petrol pumps across the country. The dealers are demanding an increase in their margin from the existing rate to a percentage they deem viable for business sustainability. The government has yet to issue an official response to the ultimatum.

Industry analysts warn that a prolonged shutdown could severely disrupt fuel supply chains, impacting transportation and the broader economy. Previous similar threats in recent years have led to negotiations, sometimes averting widespread strikes at the last minute.

The potential strike action adds to existing economic pressures in Pakistan, where energy prices and supply stability remain sensitive political issues. The coming days are expected to see intensified talks between dealer representatives and government officials.
