Ora Pharm has acquired Helius Therapeutics, creating New Zealand's largest medical cannabis company, according to a statement from Ora Pharm's CEO. The deal, announced on June 24, 2026, combines two of the country's leading medicinal cannabis producers.
The acquisition positions the merged entity to scale up manufacturing and production of cannabis medicinal products and therapeutics, and to drive exports to international markets. Ora Pharm's CEO said the deal means New Zealand now has a big integrated cannabis player that can work with local growers.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The combined company is expected to leverage Helius's existing cultivation and processing facilities alongside Ora Pharm's research and development capabilities.
New Zealand's medical cannabis industry has been growing since the country legalized medicinal cannabis in 2020, with several companies vying for market share domestically and in export markets like Australia and Europe.
