In a recent interview, Abdelghani Azzi, Director of Food Product Control at the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), stated that the health status of Morocco's national livestock is currently very satisfactory. He highlighted the office's multi-level intervention in the red meat sector, including sanitary control of farms, slaughterhouses, and meat processing units.
Azzi emphasized that ONSSA ensures compliance with health standards throughout the production chain, from animal feed to the final product. The office conducts regular inspections and monitoring to prevent diseases and guarantee food safety for consumers.
According to ONSSA data, the number of livestock in Morocco is estimated at around 30 million heads, including cattle, sheep, and goats. The office has implemented a national program for the surveillance and control of animal diseases, which has contributed to the improvement of the health status of the herd.
Azzi also noted that ONSSA works in collaboration with other stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture, to strengthen the resilience of the livestock sector against potential health crises. The office is committed to maintaining high standards of food safety and animal health.
