The National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat has kicked off a campaign to canvass for support for its flagbearer, Paddy Kisembo, in the forthcoming Kikuube district chairperson by-election scheduled for June 18.
Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, the NRM director for mobilization, confirmed the development on June 7, 2026, stating that the party is mobilizing resources and supporters to ensure Kisembo's victory. The by-election was necessitated by the death of the previous district chairperson, who passed away earlier this year.
Kisembo, a former district councilor, is expected to face off against candidates from opposition parties, including the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the National Unity Platform (NUP). The NRM holds a majority in the Kikuube District Council, and the party is keen to retain the seat.
Campaign activities are set to intensify in the coming days, with NRM officials planning rallies and door-to-door visits across the district's sub-counties. The Electoral Commission has assured the public of a free and fair election, with security measures in place.
