The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) and the Australian Government have announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards (ACVPA). These annual awards recognize outstanding community-based projects that help prevent crime and violence across Australia.
The awards are open to a wide range of initiatives, including those led by community groups, non-government organizations, government agencies, businesses, and individuals. Projects must have been running for at least 12 months and demonstrate a tangible impact on reducing crime, violence, or enhancing community safety.
Winning projects receive national recognition and a monetary prize to support their ongoing work. The awards are jointly managed by the AIC, the Minister for Home Affairs, and the state and territory police commissioners. The nomination period typically closes in mid-year, with winners announced later in 2026.
"These awards play a crucial role in highlighting effective, grassroots solutions to crime," said a spokesperson for the AIC. "They provide valuable models that can be adapted by other communities facing similar challenges."
