Nigeria's Minister of Transportation, Sa'idu Alkali, has resigned from his position in President Bola Tinubu's cabinet. His resignation was confirmed by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Tuesday, April 1, 2026. Alkali stepped down to pursue his political ambition of contesting the governorship position in Gombe State.

Alkali is among several ministers who have recently left the federal executive council to participate in upcoming party primaries and elections. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing for gubernatorial primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

President Tinubu accepted the minister's resignation and thanked him for his service. Alkali had served as Minister of Transportation since the inception of the Tinubu administration in 2023. The president has directed that the minister's responsibilities be handled by the Minister of State for Transportation pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.
