Wicklow County Council has approved plans for a new café in a long-vacant building at 23 Main Street, Wicklow town. The decision, dated July 2026, allows the conversion of the ground floor of the former retail unit into a café with seating for up to 30 customers.
The building has been empty for over five years, according to local estate agents. The applicant, Wicklow-based entrepreneur Sarah O'Brien, plans to serve locally sourced coffee and pastries. The café will operate from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.
Council planners noted the development aligns with the town's regeneration strategy, which aims to reduce vacancy rates in the commercial core. The decision was welcomed by the Wicklow Town Team, a community group focused on revitalizing the area.
