Behind bars, the 21-year-old man identified only as Ismail is now dreaming of furthering his studies in the field of aerospace, having obtained 6As and 1B in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination. Ismail, who is serving time at the Kajang Prison, credited his achievement to the prison's education program and the support of teachers. 'I never thought I could achieve this. The classes here gave me a second chance,' he said in a statement released by the prison department. His ambition is to pursue a diploma in aerospace engineering after his release.
The Malaysian Prison Department confirmed that Ismail is among several inmates who sat for the SPM exam this year. The department's rehabilitation program includes academic classes to help inmates reintegrate into society. 'Education is a key pillar of our rehabilitation efforts,' said a department spokesperson.
