The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has announced a nationwide tour of America's founding documents as part of the America250 celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The tour, titled 'America 250: The National Archives Roadshow,' will bring the US Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights to cities across the country, according to a press release from the National Archives.
The roadshow began in Washington, D.C., in May 2026 and will travel to at least 10 cities through 2027, including Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Each stop will feature interactive exhibits, document facsimiles, and educational programs. The original documents will remain in the National Archives Building in Washington, D.C., but high-quality replicas will be displayed at each venue.
NARA Archivist Dr. Colleen Shogan stated, 'This tour allows Americans across the nation to connect with the foundational documents of our democracy, especially as we approach the semiquincentennial.' The tour is funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and private donations.
Specific dates and venues for each city are available on the National Archives website. The tour aims to reach over 1 million visitors by its conclusion in 2027.
