The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) has seized a consignment of 3,600 litres of suspected illicit ethanol in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The agency estimates the value of the seizure at Sh1.2 million.
The operation, conducted on March 27, 2026, targeted a counterfeit alcohol distribution network. The ethanol, packed in 20-litre jerricans, was intercepted at a residential premises in the town's Kapsoya estate.
Nacada's Chief Executive Officer, Anthony Omerikwa, stated that the substance was suspected to be industrial ethanol, which is unfit for human consumption and poses severe health risks. The authority has launched investigations to trace the source and intended distributors of the product.
This seizure is part of Nacada's intensified nationwide crackdown on illicit alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse. The agency has urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to the manufacture or sale of illicit brews.
