Moroccan consumer goods group Mutandis has engaged the US law and lobbying firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld to represent its interests in Washington as its canned goods face US tariffs, according to a lobbying disclosure filing.
The registration, made under the US Lobbying Disclosure Act, lists the US subsidiary of Mutandis as a new client of the firm. Akin Gump has separately represented the Kingdom of Morocco under the Foreign Agents Registration Act since 2021.
The move comes as Moroccan canned goods exporters confront additional US import duties. The specific tariff rates and the scope of products affected were not detailed in the disclosure.
Mutandis is a Casablanca-based group active in consumer goods, including canned fish and other food products. The lobbying engagement signals the company's effort to influence US trade policy affecting its exports.
