Bangladesh's Commerce Secretary Md. Selim Uddin has called on sector-based trade associations to submit specific proposals aimed at increasing exports to Saudi Arabia. The appeal was made during a meeting at the Ministry of Commerce in Dhaka on May 24, 2026, according to a press release from the ministry.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral trade ties between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia. Officials emphasized the need for targeted strategies to tap into the Saudi market, which offers significant opportunities for Bangladeshi products beyond the traditional readymade garment sector.
Exporters from various sectors, including leather, jute, pharmaceuticals, and IT, were encouraged to identify barriers and suggest actionable measures. The Commerce Secretary assured that the government would consider the proposals to facilitate trade and remove bottlenecks.
Bangladesh's exports to Saudi Arabia have been growing, but officials believe there is room for expansion. The meeting was attended by senior ministry officials and representatives from export promotion bodies.
