Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has indicated that MTN Ghana could secure a spectrum block in Ghanaβs upcoming 5G auction. The government is intensifying efforts to improve internet connectivity across the country.
Speaking at a press conference on May 15, 2026, George stated that the auction is part of broader plans to enhance digital infrastructure. He emphasized that the process would be transparent and competitive, with MTN Ghana being a key player given its market position.
The auction is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals from the National Communications Authority (NCA). This move aligns with Ghana's goal to expand 5G coverage and boost economic growth through digital transformation.
