The Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley, Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, has raised concerns over the use of live ammunition during festivals and traditional ceremonies in his constituency. In a statement, Cudjoe warned that the practice poses a serious public safety risk and called for strict enforcement of existing laws that prohibit the firing of live rounds at such events.
According to local reports, the use of firearms during celebrations has led to accidental injuries and deaths in the past. Cudjoe urged the Ghana Police Service and traditional authorities to collaborate in ensuring compliance with the law. He emphasized that cultural practices should not compromise the safety of participants and spectators.
The MP's remarks come amid growing calls for tighter gun control measures in Ghana, particularly during festive periods. The Ghana Police Service has previously issued warnings against the indiscriminate firing of weapons, but enforcement remains a challenge in some rural areas.
