Moroccan forward Yassine Gessime made history on Wednesday in Atlanta by scoring his first World Cup goal in Morocco's 4-2 victory over Haiti in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. At 17 years and 10 months old, he became the youngest Moroccan player ever to score in a World Cup match.
The goal came in the 34th minute, when Gessime capitalized on a well-constructed team move to slot the ball past the Haitian goalkeeper. The assist was provided by midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, who threaded a precise pass through the defense.
Gessime, who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain, was called up to the Moroccan national team earlier this year after impressive performances in Ligue 1. His record-breaking goal surpasses the previous mark set by Abdeljalil Hadda in 1998.
Morocco's win puts them in a strong position to advance from Group C, with two wins from three matches. Haiti, making their first World Cup appearance, have been eliminated after three consecutive losses.
